Group will collect shoes at ballgame

Volunteers from the Emmanuel Class at Asbury United Methodist Church and Ozark Water Projects will be collecting old shoes at the Arkansas Travelers game at 2:10 p.m. Sunday at Dickey-Stephens Park. Those who donate two or more pairs of used, wearable shoes will get a $3 coupon for a discount on a ticket to the day's game.

Ozark Water Projects is a Little Rock nonprofit founded by Beckham and Karla Allen that collects shoes and sells them for 35 cents per pound to an exporter. They use funds from the sale to purchase water purification systems, well-digging rigs and other equipment to supply clean drinking water in places like Haiti and Kenya.

Men's, women's and children's shoes of all types, including flip-flops, high heels and tennis shoes, can be donated.

Shoes can also be dropped off at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2223 Durwood Road, or at the Friendly Chapel Church of the Nazarene, 116 S. Pine St., North Little Rock. Other locations are the New Balance Store, 13900 Cantrell Road, or Shinn's Cleaners, 2800 Foxcroft Road.

Information about Ozark Water Projects is available online at ozarkwaterprojects.org.
