UALR adds guard from Texas

UALR Coach Chris Beard announced Friday that Deondre Burns has signed a letter of intent with the Trojans.

Beard, a 6-2 point guard, averaged 24.6 points as a senior at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas.

Burns averaged 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists while earning all-region and first-team all-district recognition. He was named District 11-5A Most Valuable Player for the 2014-2015 season.

He scored a season-high 41 points at the Tommy Thompson Cougar Classic in December. He made 61 three-pointers in 28 games his senior season and finished his high school career with more than 1,300 career points.
