SEARCY — The deadline to apply for White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund summer 2015 scholarships is Monday. Flix on the Bricks

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and the Central Arkansas Library System will show the first movie in their free series Flix on the Bricks at dusk on the front lawn of the Esther Nixon Library. The film will be Rio, a G-rated animated movie.

Charity Grill-Fest

SEARCY — Hamburgers for Homelessness will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Berryhill Park. The event raises money to benefit the Jacob’s Place Homeless Mission. In addition to hamburgers, there will be kids’ activities and live music. For more information or to volunteer, call (501) 268-1771.

Portfest Festival

NEWPORT — The 34th annual Portfest Festival, which has been dubbed Rollin’ on the River, will be held June 5 and 6 at Jacksonport State Park on the banks of the White River. On June 5, Riverbilly will perform at 7 p.m., followed by The Marshall Tucker Band at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 in advance or $22 at the gate. On June 6, Little Texas will play at 7 p.m., followed by Josh Thompson at 8:30 p.m., with fireworks at the end of the show. Tickets are $12 in advance or at the gate before 4 p.m., and $17 at the gate after 4 p.m. Children 6 and younger will be admitted free on both nights.

Gourd Workshop

POCAHONTAS — The park interpreter at Davidsonville Historic State Park will teach gourd crafting from 9 a.m. to noon at the park. ASH FLAT — Ash Flat Library’s 2015 Summer Reading Round-Up will be held during the month of June. The summer reading program includes books from a large range of subjects. Practical-Nursing Classes Application Deadline

BEEBE — The deadline to apply for practical-nursing classes for fall 2015 at Arkansas State University-Searcy, a technical campus of ASU-Beebe, has been extended to June 30, or until available seats are filled. National Juried Exhibition

BATESVILLE — The Batesville Area Arts Council will hold its third annual National Juried Exhibition through June 13 at the BAAC Gallery on Main, 226 E. Main St. The exhibition is made up of 26 pieces from 20 artists across the United States. The juror for the exhibition is Delita Martin.

Summer Reading Camp

BATESVILLE — Registration is open for Reading Is a Superpower! This 2015 Summer Reading Camp for 6- to 12-year-olds, a fundraiser for the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 15-18 at First United Methodist Church, 615 E. Second Time Around Bookstore New Hours

SEARCY — The Literacy Council of White County operates the Second Time Around Bookstore at 109 E. Center. Proceeds from the sale of donated books support the mission of helping adults in the community improve their literacy and English-language skills. The store and literacy office have new hours and are now open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. BATESVILLE — The 2015 Hog Bash will be held at 6 p.m. on June 9 at Independence Hall on the University of Arkansas Community College-Batesville campus. Fred’s Fish House will cater the event that will feature University of Arkansas men’s head basketball coach Mike Anderson and University of Arkansas women’s head basketball coach Jimmy Dykes as guest speakers. ASU-Newport Media Day

NEWPORT — Arkansas State University-Newport will host a Media Day from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. June 10 in Room 118 of Walton Hall. Cyber Security Camp

BATESVILLE — The University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville will offer a free half-day cyber-security camp from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 10 in the UACCB maintenance building. Students entering grades eight and nine in fall 2015 are eligible to attend the camp, which includes hands-on activities. Topics will include the interconnections of security, technology and computers; basic concepts of Alice computer programming; PC hardware repair; password recovery; and war walking activities. A Day With Janet Carson

NEWPORT — The Jackson County Cooperative Extension Service, ASU-Newport and the White River Garden Club will hold a gardening seminar titled A Day with Janet Carson at 9:30 a.m. June 11 in the ASU-Newport Student/Community Center.
