CIVIC LEADERSHIP AWARDS

2 get Marie Interfaith honors for rural legal aid leadership

Amy Dunn Johnson and Vince Morris, both lawyers, each received a Marie Interfaith Civic Leadership Award on Oct. 21 at a program at the Central Arkansas Library System Main Library's Darragh Center.

The awards, initiated by brothers Paul and Irving Spitzberg in honor of their mother, Marie, are given to those who exemplify Marie's life of interfaith leadership and service to all regardless of religion or economic circumstances.

This year's theme was "Innovations in Legal Aid for Rural Arkansas: A Medical-Legal Partnership." The award winners were honored for their record of leadership and service supporting legal aid in rural Arkansas. Johnson is executive director of the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission and its sister organization the nonprofit Arkansas Access to Justice Foundation as well as a founder of Harmony Health Clinic. Morris is director of the Arkansas Legal Services Partnership and the Arkansas Pro Bono Partnership.

The program also included a panel discussion on the theme, moderated by Bill Waddell. Panelists were Dr. Carrie Brown, Dr. Charles Feild, Andrea Hope Howard, Kevin De Liban and Anna Strong.

This was the 11th year for the awards.
