Big Gem sculpture sparkles at arts center Fountain Fest

The winning design of the Arkansas Arts Center's Contemporaries' sculpture competition was revealed at Fountain Fest on Oct. 22.

The large, lighted diamond sculpture, named An Arkansas Gem, was installed in the fountain in front of the Arts Center. T̶o̶d̶ ̶S̶w̶i̶e̶c̶h̶o̶s̶k̶i̶ Tod “Switch” Swiecichowski* won a $1,000 prize for his creation. About a dozen entries were submitted.

The evening also included a live art demonstration by Arkansas artists Tammy and Neal Harrington, who printed T-shirts on-site. There was food by ZaZa, David's Burgers and Cupcakes on Kavanaugh, and a raffle for a Louis Vuitton purse. DJ Mike Poe, as he did last year, added the music.

Arts Center membership manager Spencer Jansen said money raised at the events would be used by the Contemporaries to buy artwork for the museum's primary collection from the 47th Collectors Show and Sale, which begins Nov. 13 at the center.
