Human remains found near river sent to state Crime Lab

Human remains of a man found Friday afternoon by a hunter have been sent to the state Crime Laboratory, according to the Saline County sheriff's office.

Saline County sheriff's office Lt. Jeffrey Silk said about 85 percent of the man's skeleton was recovered in the area of the Saline River near Arkansas 291 after an initial report about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

"Some clues from the scene will hopefully get us in the right direction to identify," Silk said, adding that no leads have been named in the case.

Silk said investigators, who believe the bones had been at the site for more than a year, are looking at reports of missing people dating back as far as two years ago.

No signs of trauma to the skeleton were found when bones were photographed and marked over the weekend, according to the sheriff's office.
