Arkansas Index dips 0.79; USA Truck up

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, slipped 0.79 to 336.45 Wednesday.

"U.S. stocks ended lower on Wednesday after [Federal Reserve Chairman] Janet Yellen reiterated it could be appropriate to raise rates at the next meeting, but no decision has been made," said John Blackwell, senior vice president and managing director of equity trading at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock. "The Arkansas Index moved lower as 11 stocks declined and seven advanced."

USA Truck rose 2.7 percent on double its average volume.

Windstream lost 2.9 percent in light trading.

Total volume of the index was 21 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
