'Masters of the Time'
The University of Central Arkansas Concert Choir will give a concert titled "The Masters of the Time," 7:30 p.m. today in the Recital Hall, Snow Fine Arts Center, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. The program will include "Sicut Cervus" by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (Renaissance), "Lobet Den Herrn" by J.S. Bach (Baroque), "Jauchzet Dem Herrn Alle Welt" by Felix Mendelssohn (Romantic) and The Wedding Cantata by Daniel Pinkham (20th century), plus arrangements of Shaker and Hungarian songs. Arts Center impact
Jeane Hamilton, who has been actively involved with the Arkansas Arts Center since its beginning in 1957 and has an extensive collection of history and memorabilia, will join Clinton School of Public Service Dean Skip Rutherford to talk about the Arts Center and its impact for a half century in a session titled "Meeting a Statewide Need: The Founding of the Arkansas Arts Center," noon today in Sturgis Hall, Clinton School of Public Service, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. FOCAL sale
The Friends of Central Arkansas Libraries will hold their fall used book sale 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday in the basement of the Central Arkansas Library System's Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock. Nearly 200,000 "gently read" books will sell for 50 cents and $1. FOCAL members get early entrance to the sale and discounts at River Market Books & Gifts in the nearby Cox Building, 120 River Market Ave. Proceeds fund library programs at branches, community book club kits, Summer Reading Club materials, and special Saturday programming for children at the Main Library. 'Girl Talk' artwork
"Girl Talk," works by sculptors Mia Hall and Morgan Hill, debuts with a reception, 6:30-9 p.m. Friday at the Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., North Little Rock. It's the ninth installment of Thea's Art Department, a quarterly young professionals series. Admission is $10 at the door, which covers heavy hors d'oeuvres by Ben E. Keith, an open beer and wine bar including local beer by Asana Alehouse, music by DJ Baldego and the chance to win an original work of art. The artwork by Hall, who creates furniture and lighting installments in concrete, and Hill, who works primarily in wood and metal, will be on display through November.
