Arkansas Achievers

Zartashia Javid of Fort Smith has been elected to a two-year term with the Alliance Trustees of America's Promise Alliance, the nation's largest partnership organization dedicated to improving the lives of youth. Javid is enrolled as a biology major at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock.

Patti Erwin of the Arkansas Forestry Commission has received the Dr. John L. Gray Forestry Conservationist of the Year Award from the Arkansas Wildlife Federation. Erwin has been with the commission since 1996.

Ashley Humphreys, a graduate student in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, has earned a Monsanto Graduate Student Scholarship. Humphreys, who is from Manito, Ill., earned her bachelor's degree in dietetics from the Bumpers College in 2011 and is working on a master's in entomology.

Suzanne Bierman, assistant director of the Arkansas Division of Medical Services, has been selected as a Council of State Governments' Henry Toll Fellow for the Class of 2015.

Katie Collins of Cabot has been awarded a scholarship by Lyon College for Arkansas Governor's Distinguished Scholars for the 2015-16 academic year. Collins is the daughter of Randall and Sandy Collins.

Thomas Drennan of Arkadelphia and Dale Brooks of Mayflower, culinary students at Pulaski Technical College, have received scholarships from the James Beard Foundation.

Augustus Wisdom of Beebe, a sophomore at Arkansas State University-Beebe, has been awarded the Wayne Hartsfield Scholarship. Wisdom is seeking an Associate of Science degree in agriculture, with an emphasis in business.

Danny Smith of Newton County was named Arkansas Paramedic of the Year. Smith works for North Arkansas Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Services. This honor is awarded annually at the Arkansas Emergency Medical Technician Association conference.

The following students have received Chancellor's Academic Distinction Scholarships from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. They are freshmen who earned a score of 30 or above on the ACT and at least a 3.0 cumulative high school grade point average:

The following Pulaski Technical College students, all of whom are enrolled in culinary or hospitality programs at the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Institute, have received scholarships from the Arkansas Hospitality Association:
