Arkansas Achievers

Harleigh Robbins of Greenbrier, Layne Huddleston of Bryant, Luke Tyhurst of Benton and Mark Parker of Lonoke have been awarded the Provost's Academic Excellence Scholarship by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. This competitive scholarship is for entering freshmen and requires the recipient to have a 28 or above on the ACT and at least a 3.0 cumulative high school grade-point average.

Karina Mosquera of Fayetteville and Kirsten Resecker of Jerusalem, Ark., students in the Veterinary Technology program at Arkansas State University-Beebe, have been awarded scholarships for the fall 2015 semester. Funded by the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Foundation and the Arkansas Veterinary Medical Association, the scholarships are based on academic performance and service to ASU-Beebe.

Craig Evans of Little Rock has been named the 2015 Engineer of the Year for the Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District. Evans, who began his career with the Little Rock District in 1988, serves as a structural engineer in the Infrastructure Safety Section. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Memphis State University.

Nora Gibbons of Stuttgart and Lauren Lavender of Little Rock, senior medical students at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, are this year's recipients of the Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield Primary Care Scholarship, which is intended to encourage aspiring physicians to pursue primary care practices in Arkansas.

Matthew Evans of Conway has been named the 2015 Boyer Fellow in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. To become a Boyer Fellow, a student must score 32 or higher on the ACT, demonstrate financial need and show the potential to be a leader.

Coleen Miller Barger, the Ben J. Altheimer Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's William H. Bowen School of Law, will receive the Thomas F. Blackwell Memorial Award. The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the field of legal writing. Prof. Barger received her juris doctor degree from UALR.

Jake Mathis, a 2015 Honor Graduate of Conway High School, has received a Naval ROTC scholarship. Mathis is attending The Citadel and majoring in engineering.

Nashira Bell,an honor student at William Jefferson Clinton Elementary School in Sherwood, has been awarded the Certificate of Meritorious Academic Achievement from President Barack Obama. She also received a letter from the president expressing his congratulations for her hard work, and a congratulatory letter from the U.S. Department of Education.

Luke Lefier, Tristan Gregory and Nicholas Amerson have completed the qualifications for advancement to the Boy Scouts' rank of Eagle Scout. The scouts belong to Troop 2 of the Quapaw Area Council, sponsored by Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs.

Scott Pursley of Little Rock has been nominated and selected as a final honoree for an Arkansas Community Service Award in 2016. The honor is sponsored each year by the Arkansas Department of Human Services Division of Community Service and Nonprofit Support, the Office of the Governor, KARK Television, and the Duncan Law Firm.

Mysti Kirkpatrick of Metropolitan Career and Technical Center in Little Rock was awarded third place in esthetics in the high school division at the 2015 National Leadership and Skills Conference and SkillsUSA Championships in Louisville, Ky.

Stefan McCall, a native of Little Rock, has been appointed field engineer on the construction team of the Baton Rouge Are Projects Group for Mobil-Exxon. McCall is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Andrew Norwood of Little Rock, Kirby Miraglia of Jacksonville and Sidney Stewart of Conway have received Top Paper awards at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's William H. Bowen School of Law. Norwood earned an award in the legal profession course, Miraglia earned in an award in the Supreme Court litigation course, and Stewart earned an award in the gender & the law course.

The following students have received scholarships from North Pulaski Republican Women:

Alexys Ireland of Maumelle High School will attend the University of Central Arkansas.

Cameron Bajorek of North Pulaski High School will attend Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.

Caleb Price of Jacksonville High School will attend Pulaski Technical College.

Jacob Price, a current student at Pulaski Technical College, received a continuing education scholarship.

The following students have received scholarships from the Darnell Williams II Endowment Inc. All are graduates of Marvell-Elaine High School:

Jameka Lowery will attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Freddonia Gordon will attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Candace McKnight will attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Ashley Murphy will attend Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas.
