Lake Norfork slabs also getting noticed

Lake Maumelle isn't the only place crappie are biting.

John Stringfellow of Norfork and Robert McNair of Bruno recently caught a mess of slab crappie and one striped bass at Lake Norfork.

Stringfellow said they caught 17 crappie, including one that measured 14 1/2 inches, over cedar tops at depths of about 30 feet using a 1/16-ounce Bobby Garland jig and live minnows on 6-pound test P-Line. Stringfellow caught and landed the striper on the same rig.

The water was 68 degrees, but Stringfellow said he expects the fishing to pick up when the water reaches 55-65 degrees.

"We logged 700-plus crappie in 2011-12, but we have not had that good of luck since then," Stringfellow wrote, "but with the high water all spring, summer and early fall, we believe things are looking up."

Donnie Hulse and Greg Parker of White Hall also enjoyed a great trip in southeast Arkansas. A 3-pound crappie was the highlight of their day.
