MIRACLE BALL PREVIEW

Poolside party offers peek at December affair's theme

Under a faint crescent of moon on an unusually balmy fall night, a group of about 100 gathered on Cassie and Jason LaFrance's poolside patio for hors d'oeuvres, drinks and music. What unites them Oct. 15 is the abiding certainty that they will all convene again in a few weeks, Dec. 12, this time in Children's Hall at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

The LaFrances are this year's chairmen of Miracle Ball, the prosperous event put on by the hospital's fundraising foundation.

"You know, last year's Miracle Ball highlighted the, it was the culmination of, ACH's Century of Possibility campaign, a campaign that raised in excess of $188 million dollars -- pretty impressive," Jason LaFrance said, drawing a round of applause.

"This year's Miracle Ball is focusing on ACH's new mission, which is to champion children, making them better today and healthier tomorrow, and that's something that's pretty easy for Cassie and I to get behind, and it makes us proud to be the chairs of this year's Miracle Ball."

Along with calling out hospital president Marcy Doderer for her leadership, LaFrance thanked his fellow presenting sponsors, Colliers International, the Roberts Law Firm, Rebecca Rice and Associates, and Jones and Son Diamond & Bridal Fine Jewelry.

The theme of the ball, Cassie LaFrance said, is Great Expectations, which alludes to the hospital's high hopes for the event and itself.
