Little Rock man charged in thefts at hotel

A Little Rock man was arrested in connection with a single car theft in Little Rock's River Market District after three vehicles have been reported stolen from the area in recent days.

Two of the vehicles were reported stolen after being dropped off with valet services at the Little Rock Marriott on Statehouse Plaza over the weekend, according to police reports.

According to one report, a woman told police she handed her Nissan Pathfinder over to an unknown attendant Saturday night, but the valet service had no record of receiving it.

In the other reported theft at the Marriott on Saturday, valet attendants told police a Honda Pilot was parked in front of the hotel while in transition to the garage with other vehicles. Attendants assumed the SUV made it to the garage but did not specifically remember driving it there and could not find it when the customer returned, according to the police report.

Another report states a guest at the Homewood Suites on River Market Avenue discovered several items missing from his family's room, including his keys. When police checked the parking garage, the guest's Buick Enclave was gone.

Leon Carter, 43, was arrested by Little Rock police Tuesday morning in connection with the theft of the Buick Enclave. An arrest report said Carter was inside Homewood Suites and the Doubletree Hotel on West Markham Street even though he had been told to leave.

The arrest report also says Carter was seen on surveillance footage at the Homewood Suites entering a room where he took property and keys.

Carter was arrested and booked into the Pulaski County jail on two counts of theft of property, two counts of criminal trespass, commercial burglary and fleeing. He was still listed on the jail's roster Tuesday night.
