Sign-up end nearing for conservation aid

Farmers and landowners in several Arkansas counties have until Dec. 18 to apply for financial assistance to implement conservation practices, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced.

Applicants may sign up through three Regional Conservation Partnership Program projects, the USDA said in a news release. Applications are available at local USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service field service centers.

The three projects are the Bayou Meto Lower Watershed in parts of Arkansas, Jefferson, Lonoke, Prairie and Pulaski counties; the Illinois River Watershed in parts of Benton and Washington counties; and the Red River Watershed in parts of Hempstead, Lafayette, Little River and Miller counties, according to the USDA.

Participants must meet land and producer eligibility, adjusted gross income, and other program criteria, the agency said. Agricultural lands are eligible, the agency said.
