A sign in the door of the Clinton Museum Store announces the move of the retailer to the presidential library.

The Clinton Museum Store located in Little Rock's River Market district will move to within the presidential library and museum about a quarter mile away, the Clinton Foundation said Thursday.

The announcement also came with the news that the Clinton Center will raise its prices for the first time in its 11-year history, with adult tickets rising from $7 to $10.

Active military and school groups will still be given free admission, the foundation said.

Currently, a small retail shop exists in the lobby of the Clinton library and museum. The center will remain open while the lobby is renovated to consolidate the store and the kiosk.

Renovations are expected to be completed in March, the foundation said.

When the library first opened in 2004, state law prevented the retail store from existing on the grounds of the nonprofit center, which was partially funded by a tax rebate, according to James "Skip" Rutherford, the founding president of the Clinton Foundation, who supervised the library's construction.

Rutherford said developers at the time also wanted to draw visitors into the River Market district, which in the early-2000s lacked the many shops and restaurants that exist today.

The time limit on that restriction has since expired, said Rutherford, who now serves as the dean of the nearby University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service and did not have a deciding role in the move.

"I think it served its purpose well," Rutherford said. "I can make the argument that putting it back in the library, after 10 years, makes economic sense."

In its news release, the Clinton Foundation said the store on President Clinton Avenue will close by the end of the year.

The foundation will also look to lease or sell the building housing the store, according to the release.
