'Something Borrowed'

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra opens its 2015-16 Intimate Neighborhood Concerts series with a concert titled "Something Borrowed," 7 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock. Philip Mann will conduct members of the orchestra in Nocturno/Overture in C major for winds by Felix Mendelssohn; the Chamber Symphony for strings, op.110a, by Dmitri Shostakovich (an expansion of his String Quartet No. 8); Storm Windows by Dan Visconti, and Soirees musicales ("after Rossini"), op.9, by Benjamin Britten. Songwriter sings

Nashville, Tenn., singer/songwriter Craig Carothers will give a concert at 7 p.m. Friday at Khalil's Pub & Grill, 110 S. Craft fair

More than 40 vendors from Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma will be selling seasonal crafts at Harding University's Women for Harding's third craft fair, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday at the White County Fair Grounds, 802 Davis Drive, Searcy. Chili fundraiser

The Amboy Neighborhood Association will hold a "Chili Cook-Off Fundraiser" on Saturday at Amboy United Methodist Church, 311 E. Military Drive, North Little Rock. A panel of local celebrities starts judging at 11 a.m.; teams can prepare and cook on site (arrive between 8:30 and 9 a.m.) or prepare chili off-site and haul it to the church. Rules are informal (it must contain chili of some form and should "look good, smell good, and taste good," according to a news release) -- meat, vegetable or both; beans and other fillers are OK. The public can start sampling various chilies toward voting for People's Choice winners at 11:30, after the judging ends; chili kits (bowl and spoon) are $3. Grace Lutheran Church, 5124 Hillcrest Ave. at Kavanaugh Boulevard, Little Rock, will host its Fall Craft Show and Used Book Sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. More than two dozen artisans and vendors will sell items ranging from jewelry and soup mixes to German pastries. Breakfast and lunch will be available. Pan auditions

Arkansas Festival Ballet will hold auditions for male and female dancers age 7 and up for its full-length ballet production of Peter Pan on Saturday at the Arkansas Festival Ballet/Arkansas Academy of Dance Studio, Breckenridge Village Shopping Center, Interstate 430 and North Rodney Parham Road, Little Rock. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with 9-10 a.m. auditions for dancers age 7-10 with a minimum of two years of classical ballet training, with registration at 2:15 p.m. and auditions at 2:45-4 p.m. for dancers ages 11 and older with at least four years' training.
