Teen accused of sexually assaulting 5-year-old girl on bus

A 15-year-old boy is accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl while traveling to school on a Jonesboro school bus earlier this month, according to a police report.

An Arkansas State Police investigator told Jonesboro police Monday of an initial report to state police regarding inappropriate touching and indecent exposure involving two minors. The report lists Nov. 4 as the possible date of the alleged assault.

On Monday afternoon, Jonesboro police interviewed the boy with his father present. Both consented to questioning, the report stated.

During the interview, the boy admitted to putting his hand inside of the girl's underwear.

The boy was released into the custody of his parents, who were advised by police that their son could not ride the bus during the ongoing investigation.

A cellphone and laptop computer were submitted into evidence and are being investigated by the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force laboratory. The case will be closed pending laboratory results, police said.

Jonesboro police spokesman Paul Holmes said the case is expected to be referred to Craighead County Juvenile Court.
