Conway AARP Chapter Meeting

CONWAY — The Conway AARP Chapter will meet at the Ola and John Hawks Senior Activity Center, 705 E. Siebenmorgen Road. A lunch of taco salad, refried beans, chips and dip, ice cream and milk will be served at 11:15 a.m. at a cost $3 for attendees 60 and older, and $6 for those 59 and younger. The program will be a seniors talent show at 12:30 p.m., with local talent selected by Debra Robinson and Peggy Sturgis. UCA Creative Writing Faculty Reading

LITTLE ROCK — The University of Central Arkansas Department of Writing will host a faculty reading at 7:30 p.m. at the Oxford American Annex, 1300 Main St. The reading is free and open to the public. Readers will include Jennie Case, who has published poetry and prose; Sandy Longhorn, the author of The Alchemy of My Mortal Form; Mark Spitzer, the author of Garapaima: A Monster Fish Novel; and Garry Craig Powell, the author of Stoning the Devil. Civil War Traveling Exhibit

PERRYVILLE — The Perry County Historical Museum is hosting a traveling exhibit, Arkansas in the Civil War. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Patrons may buy a soldier’s meal of beans and cornbread for $5 each day.

Film Series

CONWAY — The Faulkner County Library film series will conclude with a screening of The Ice Storm: (Thanksgiving, 1973) at 6 p.m. The series is hosted by Mark Lager, a graduate student in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program at the University of Central Arkansas. Tree-mendous Event

MORRILTON — The Safe Place Inc., a shelter for domestic-violence victims, will hold its second annual Tree-mendous fundraiser event at 9:30 a.m. at The Rialto Community Arts Center, 215 E. Broadway. The event includes refreshments and a silent auction for decorated trees, wreaths, centerpieces, ornaments and more. GFWC Century League 5K and Kids 1K

MORRILTON — The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Century League of Morrilton will host its third annual 5K run/walk fundraiser at 8 a.m. at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton, with a kids 1K fun run for ages 16 and younger at 7:45 a.m. The 5K entry fee is $30; the 1K fee is $15. Student Art Show

CONWAY — Senior art majors in the Hendrix College Department of Art will host the 2015 Student Competitive Art Show through Dec. 4 in Gallery A of the college’s Art Building on Front Street downtown. Chamber Orchestra Thanksgiving concert

Russellville Christmas Parade Entry Deadline

RUSSELLVILLE — The entry deadline for the 2015 Russellville Christmas Parade is noon Nov. 30. Entries will not be accepted past this time. Parade entry forms are available at the Recreation and Parks Department office, 1000 E. Parkway, or at www.russellvillearkansas.org. The parade, with the theme “Christmas Movies,” will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3, with a rainout date of Dec. 7. The entry fee is $25 for a float and $100 for a commercial entry. Trout Day 2015

RUSSELLVILLE — The Caddis Fly Fishing Club, the Russellville Recreation and Parks Department and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will present Trout Day 2015 from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 5 at Pleasant View Park pond, which the AGFC will stock with 1,200 rainbow trout. Both bait fishing and fly-fishing will be available, and bait will be provided. A fishing license and trout permit (stamp) are required for fishermen 16 or older. The limit of five rainbow trout will apply. In conjunction with Trout Day, a free Basic Trout Fishing Clinic will be held from 6-7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Hughes Center. Book Signing

RUSSELLVILLE — There will be a book signing from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 17 at A Conversation Piece, 312 W. Second St. Jeannie Stone will sign copies of the illustrated The Holy Spirit in the New Testament, which features 12 pieces of Stone’s artwork. Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $60 each. Other local handmade items will be available, and refreshments will be served.
