Heavy rains, possible tornadoes in Oklahoma, Arkansas

OKLAHOMA CITY — A storm system brewing in the southwestern U.S. is expected to move across Oklahoma and Arkansas, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.

The National Weather Service says the storm will intensify as it moves eastward across Oklahoma with one to five inches of rain from Monday night through Tuesday, and up to 10 inches in isolated areas of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas and winds of 50 to 60 mph.

The storm is expected to continue tracking eastward across Arkansas, dumping three to five inches of rain virtually statewide.

The primary concern is strong winds and rain that could cause flash flooding, but the weather service says tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

The system is expected to leave the region by Wednesday.
