Baxter County man says he let stranger into home, got stabbed

A man in Baxter County called police early Tuesday morning and reported being stabbed by a stranger he offered to help and let inside his home, according to the sheriff's office.

In a release, the Baxter County sheriff's office said the victim told police he saw a car parked outside his house on Forest Hills Drive east of Mountain Home after midnight and let the man inside, believing him to be a stranded motorist.

That's when the stranger grabbed a fillet knife that was on the counter and demanded the victim's wallet, police said the victim told them.

The victim refused, and the man swung the knife, cutting the victim's face and starting a struggle in which he was also stabbed in the arm, according to his account.

After the stranger ran out of the house and fled in his vehicle, the man called 911 around 12:50 a.m., police said.

Police said they arrived to the scene to find the man holding a rag to one of his cuts.

The victim was taken to Baxter County Regional Medical Center to be treated, police said.

The sheriff's office said the man who attempted the robbery was described as being slim, white and between 30 and 35; standing about 6 feet 1 inches tall; having long brown hair;, and wearing a gray shirt with blue jeans.

He was seen driving a blue car with a red hood that may be an Oldsmobile, police said.
