Benton police said drugs and an illegal firearm were found in the car of a man involved in a fatal three-car wreck Tuesday morning, leading to DWI and manslaughter charges for the driver.

In a report released Wednesday, police said Vincent Heredia, 38, of Benton crossed the centerline near the intersection of Edison Avenue and Pope Street around 7:40 a.m., striking two vehicles.

The second vehicle was hit head-on, police said, killing Cheyenne McManigal, 24, of Benton.

Police searched Heredia's car and found prescription drugs, a firearm and a pipe containing residue tested for marijuana, according to a police report.

Heredia was charged with DWI-drugs, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia, manslaughter, and the illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, the report said.

Investigations are continuing into the crash, police said.
