Hogs fall to Akron at home

— Hot-shooting Akron withstood a late rally and beat Arkansas 88-80 Wednesday at Bud Walton Arena.

The Zips made 13 of 28 3-point attempts and 50.9 percent of their attempts overall.

Akron (3-0) snapped Arkansas 54-game home win streak against unranked nonconference opponents. The Razorbacks fell to 1-1 overall.

The Zips never trailed and led by as many as 14 points in the second half. Arkansas used a 12-2 run to pull within 75-71 with 3:33 remaining, but couldn't get closer.

Antino Jackson scored 23 points to lead Akron. Reggie McAdams added 18 points and Isaiah Johnson scored 15.

Four different Zips hit at least three 3-pointers.

Anthlon Bell made five 3-pointers and scored 23 points off the bench to lead the Razorbacks. Moses Kingsley had 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Dusty Hannahs added 16 points.

Akron led 37-29 and pushed the lead to 49-39 shortly after head coach Keith Dambrot was assessed a technical foul early in the second half.

Bell and Hannahs hit back-to-back 3-pointers, and Trey Thompson added a basket to pull Arkansas within 49-47, but Jackson responded with a with a 3-point play and 3-pointer the next two possessions to push the lead back out to eight points.

Akron extended its lead to 73-59 on Jake Kretzer's 3-pointer with 5:58 remaining.

Kingsley and Hannahs combined for 10 points during the Razorbacks' subsequent run to pull within four points. Kwan Cheatam Jr.'s 3-pointer with 2:59 left stopped the run.

Akron made its final three field goal attempts and six of its final eight free throws to seal the win.

Arkansas is scheduled to play again Friday against Charleston Southern at Bud Walton Arena.
