Damage to homes and infrastructure was reported in parts of Arkansas after a band of intense storms moved across the state Tuesday, and crews were still working Wednesday evening to restore power to thousands.

More than 2,900 customers remained in the dark about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Entergy said.

Of the power failures, about 2,300 customers were without electricity in Garland County.

Service was expected to be restored to most customers by midnight Wednesday.

Sally Graham, a spokesman for Entergy in Arkansas, said outages may temporarily increase after the storm as crews open up circuits to work on lines, or when more branches fall on power lines.

Power had been restored early Wednesday to the Garland County courthouse, which reopened for business after closing early the day before.

More than 22,000 customers were without power during the height of the storms, which also downed trees and damaged buildings in different parts of the state.

A tree fell during the storm in the Heights neighborhood of Little Rock, smashing through the windshield and hood of a Porsche parked on Van Buren Street. The block remained closed Wednesday morning.

Several cabins near Lake Hamilton in Garland County were also damaged in the storms and the roof of an outdoor stage at the Perry County Fairgrounds was ripped off and blown 40 yards away, the National Weather service said.

The roof was also torn off an auto body shop in Grant County, as well as a house in Monticello, according to reports collected by the weather service.

Parts of three Arkansas counties were placed under a tornado warning during the storm, but there were no reports of tornadoes in the state. Several possible tornadoes were reported in Mississippi.
