Coleman chooses campaign adviser

U.S. Senate candidate Curtis Coleman said Wednesday he has hired a senior campaign adviser -- a 24-year-old Virginia political consultant who managed the campaign that ousted former U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

Zachary Werrell managed the campaign of Republican U.S. Rep. David Brat of Virginia, an economist who defeated Cantor in a primary in June 2014.

"We hope to ride the wave that is propelling [Republican presidential candidates] Donald Trump, [Ben] Carson [and] Ted Cruz, all these outsiders," Werrell said.

Coleman is a Little Rock businessman who lost bids for the Republican Party's nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2010 and governor in 2014. He is challenging Republican U.S. Sen. John Boozman of Rogers in the March 1 primary.

"We have no thoughts on who our opponent's campaign hires," said Boozman's campaign manager, Chris Caldwell.
