UCA chorus

'Love and Dance'

The Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra and Ballet Arkansas Preparatory Program will team up for a program titled "Shakespeare, Love and Dance," marking the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Albert Pike Masonic Center, East Seventh and Scott streets, Little Rock. The music will include portions of Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet, Felix Mendelssohn's incidental music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, Claude Debussy's Nocturnes and the Overture to Jacques Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld. Organ concert

Organist Jonathan Moyer will give a concert at 8 p.m. Friday at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, 4823 Woodlawn Drive, Little Rock. The program: "Piece heroique" from Trois Pieces pour Grand Orgue by Cesar Franck; "Benedictus" from 12 Stücke für Orgel, op.59, by Max Reger; Scherzo, op.2, by Maurice Durufle, "Dieu parmi nous" ("God Among Us") from La Nativite du Seignur by Olivier Messiaen; and Symphony No. 1 for organ by Jean Langlais. Chamber program

The Hendrix College Chamber Players and Singers will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Reves Recital Hall at Hendrix, 1600 Washington Ave., Conway. The Brass Ensemble (Stephen James, conductor) will play works by Fred L. Frank, Giovanni Gabrielli and a march by Edwin Eugene Bagley. The UCA Brass Quintet will play Fanfare for Brass Quintet by Tyler Walters. Erin Marsham, marimba, will perform A Pentatonic Marimba Solo by Sydney Hickok. Hickok will conduct the Hendrix College Women's Ensemble (Michael Edwards, soprano; Natasha Bray, mezzo-soprano; and Kelsey Williams, alto) in "Bumblebee: by The Real Group and Eddie Cooley"; "Fever" by John Davenport; and Moses Hogan's arrangement of "Wade in the Water."

The Hendrix College String Trio (Quy Pham, violin; Eli Spake, viola; and Ana Poole, cello) will play the movement "Andante con espressione," from the String Trio in D major, op. 53 No. 3, by Franz Joseph Haydn. And the Arkansas Symphony's Rockefeller String Quartet (Katherine Williamson, Trisha McGovern-Freeney, violins; Katherine Reynolds, viola; Aaron Ludwig, cello), in residence at Hendrix, will play the first two movements, "Lento" and "Allegretto," from the String Quartet No. 1, op. 7, by Bela Bartok. The University of Central Arkansas jazz ensembles will give a concert at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Recital Hall, Snow Fine Arts Center, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. Jazz Ensemble I's program includes "Con Alma" by Dizzy Gillespie, "A Lift of the Foot" by Alan Baylock, "Cotton Tail" by Duke Ellington and "March of the Tadpoles" by Toshiko Akiyoshi. Larry Jones conducts. Jazz Ensemble II and conductor Gail Robertson will perform "Gospel John" (featuring Taylor Brandon, trumpet), "Killer Joe," "The Summer of '42" (featuring Carlos Udave, alto sax), "September Song," "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "Funkythustra" and "Oblivion" (featuring Brandon Lugo, flugelhorn). Conductor Jackie Lamar and the UCA Dixieland Band will play standards including "Ain't She Sweet," "Bill Bailey," "Hello, Dolly!" and "St. James Infirmary," and pianist Anna Laura McAfee will join them for "Little Rock Getaway" by Jo Sullivan. Forrest City Frosty
