Fingerstyle guitarist, Extravaganza offer varied options

Guitar virtuoso Muriel Anderson will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at The Joint in the last show of the 2015 Argenta Arts Acoustic Music Series. Tickets are $20, available at the door or online.

Anderson, a fingerstyle guitarist and harp-guitarist, grew up in Illinois and is the granddaughter of a saxophonist in John Phillip Sousa's band. She is the first woman to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship, and she recorded with Chet Atkins and Les Paul. Her latest CD, Nightlight Daylight, features her concept of the first-ever interactive lighted CD cover and includes collaborations with Victor Wooten, Phil Keaggy, Stanley Jordan, Tommy Emmanuel, Earl Klugh, Mark Kibble of Take 6, and Al Anderson (formerly of NRBQ). She has released 17 CDs, 12 DVDs and six books since she debuted in 1989.

Drummerboyinfinity will present The 2015 Singers Extravaganza at 8 p.m. Sunday at the Rev Room. In the show, 20 singers will present versions of songs from the 1950s through the 2000s. Tickets are $5 for children age 12 and under, $10 for general admission, $15 for reserved seating and $20 for V.I.P. seating.

The Sideshow Tragedy will perform Friday, with Collin Vs. Adam opening the show at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $7.

Jeremy Pinnell will perform at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Described as an "outlaw country musician," Kentucky native Pinnell, akin to another country singer, Sturgill Simpson, sings about his addictions, hardships and failed relationships. Admission is $7.

Tony Furtado will perform at 8 p.m. today at Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack. Furtado is a noted banjo player who also plays slide guitar and sings, with a style that has been described as a mix of bluegrass, jazz, Americana, folk and rock. He has released 15 albums since debuting in 1992 with Swamped. Tickets are $7 general admission, $12 for reserved seating and $40 for four-top table seating.

Cereus Bright will perform with co-headliner Family and Friends at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 the day of the show.

Cereus Bright, a Knoxville, Tenn., band, takes its name from a desert flower that only blooms at night. Led by Tyler Anthony and Evan Ford, the group performs what has been described by Paste magazine as "impassioned folk."

Family and Friends is a seven-person indie-folk-rock collective formed in Athens, Ga., that features two drummers.

Heavy metal band Autograph will perform at 8 p.m. today at Juanita's. Formed in Pasadena, Calif., in 1983, the band famously opened 48 Van Halen shows, even before being signed to a recording contract. The band's debut album, Sign in Please, released in 1985, contained Autograph's only major hit, "Turn Up the Radio." Tickets are $12 or $15.

The group has toured with Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Heart, Motley Crue and Bryan Adams. Autograph broke up in 1989, but reunited in 2013, minus original lead singer Steve Plunkett, who was replaced by Simon Daniels.

Andrew Jackson Jihad will headline a show Saturday and the 7:30 p.m. show will open with sets by Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts and Rozwell Kid. Tickets are $10 or $12.

Andrew Jackson Jihad is a folk/punk band from Phoenix, formed in 2004.

Foul Play Cabaret, the local burlesque show, will present the Quaker City Nighthawks, at 9 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10.
