Forum set Nov. 30 on criminal justice

The Coalition for Public Safety, the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service and the Arkansas Legislative Criminal Justice Oversight Task Force will hold the first Arkansas Justice Forum on Nov. 30.

The one-hour panel discussion featuring state and national leaders from across the political spectrum will highlight the potential for changes in the criminal justice system in Arkansas, put forward examples of successful changes enacted in other states and detail efforts to make Arkansas's system fairer, safer and more cost-effective.

This event is part of the coalition's Fair Sentencing and Fair Chances National Tour, a coordinated effort among Americans for Tax Reform, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Faith and Freedom Coalition, the NAACP, the Center for American Progress, FreedomWorks, the Leadership Conference Education Fund and Right on Crime to reduce jail and prison populations, cut incarceration costs, reduce recidivism and remove barriers faced by those re-entering society to leading productive lives.

Lance Lemmonds of the Coalition for Public Safety will serve as the moderator for the forum. Panelists will include state Sens. Jeremy Hutchinson (R-Little Rock) and Joyce Elliott (D-Little Rock); Jerry Madden, former chairman of the Texas House of Representatives Corrections Committee; and Kelly Eichler, general counsel for Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Seats for the noon forum in Sturgis Hall can be reserved by emailing publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu or calling (501) 683-5239.
