Tyson to announce 4Q earnings Monday

Tyson Foods, a Springdale-based company, will announce its fourth-quarter earnings at 6:30 a.m. Monday, before markets open. The company will hold a conference call the same day.

The average estimate of nine analysts predict earnings of 80 cents per share for the quarter that ended in September. The average of seven analysts' predictions on revenue for the quarter came in at $10.35 billion.

Tyson reported net income of $343 million, or 80 cents per share, in August. The company missed estimates for that quarter, which analysts predicted at 92 cents per share.

The conference call can be heard at 8 a.m. Monday by dialing (888) 455-8283 and using the passcode "Tyson Foods." A replay will be available about an hour after the call ends and can be accessed until Dec. 23 at (800) 679-9654.

Nominations sought for small businesses

The U.S. Small Business Administration is seeking nominations for its 2016 Small Business Week Awards, the agency announced this week.

The nominations are for both national and regional awards, including the Small Business Person of the Year award and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, according to a news release.

The nomination deadline for the awards is Jan. 11 at 2 p.m.

Nominations may be submitted at the Small Business Administration Arkansas District Office or at http://awards.sba.gov.

Winners from Arkansas will be honored at the 2016 Small Business Week Awards Luncheon on May 3. The luncheon will be hosted by the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, according to the news release.

Arkansas Index falls 2.39, ends at 328.55

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 2.39 to 328.55 on Friday.

Winners and losers were divided evenly.

America's Car-Mart dropped 14.2 percent on 10 times its average volume after missing quarterly earnings expectations.

Murphy Oil fell 5 percent on average volume.

Windstream rose 3.8 percent in light trading.

For the week, 12 stocks advanced and six declined.

Windstream gained 8.3 percent for the week.

America's Car-Mart was off 12 percent for the week.

Total volume of the index Friday was 28.2 million shares. The average daily volume for the week was 30 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
