A MELTING POT

Annual women's seminar salutes diversity in business

It was the 10th year of existence for The 100 Women's Technology, Entrepreneur, Career and Wellness conference, hosted by Inclusion magazine and the Multicultural Expo Center.

The annual conference, which has been held in several cities, took place Nov. 13 in ballroom Salons A and B at the Little Rock Marriott.

Supha Xayprasith-Mays, founder of the magazine, expo center and conference, served as the master of ceremonies for the sold-out event. It featured such speakers as Jerry Pavlas, president of event sponsor One Bank; Lori Bird of Bird Inc. in Orlando, Fla.; Jeff Friesner, region market manager for Wal-Mart; Lawrence Griffith, founder and chief executive officer of Digital Factory Inc. in Chicago; Gilbert A. Garcia, founder and managing partner of sponsor Garcia Hamilton & Associates in Houston; Ruby Munoz Dang, a partner with Garcia Hamilton; and Annette Fisher, mother of New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher.

A reception that evening afforded guests heavy hors d'oeuvres and entertainment by Club 19 and teen vocalists Sydney "Saje Alex" Jackson of Washington and Jodeci Bird of Orlando.

The reception also included acknowledgments and an awards ceremony. Among the special guests for the evening was Larry Middleton of Stephens Inc.

Inclusion magazine promotes racial and cultural diversity in business. The mission of the Little Rock-based Expo Center is "to unify cultures by facilitating ... interaction among diverse populations through education and by providing opportunities to all."

The 2016 women's conference is planned for Oct. 28 at the Marriott.
