OT touchdown run gets Lions' victory

Brian Handley scored on an 8-yard touchdown run on second and goal to give the Golden Lions (2-9, 1-8) their lone Southwestern Athletic Conference victory of the season Saturday at Rice-Totten Stadium in Itta Bena, Miss.

UAPB led 16-0 with 11:17 left in the third quarter on a 18-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Duncan to Cody Swain. The Delta Devils (1-10, 1-8) then scored the next 12 points to close the quarter trailing 16-12.

Jamie Gillan kicked a 32-yard field goal with 14:16 left in the fourth quarter to give the Golden Lions a 19-12 lead, but LaTria Jones intercepted Duncan's pass and raced in for a 38-yard return. Rube Piraquive's extra point tied the score at 19-19 with 6:08 left.

UAPB's Nicholas Stroud sacked Slade Jarman on third down on MVSU's first possession of overtime to set up a fourth and 28 from the Golden Lions' 43. Slade's pass was incomplete on the Delta Devils' final play.

Dante McDonald ran twice for 14 yards on UAPB's overtime possession. A face-mask penalty on second and 12 from the MVSU 13 gave the Golden Lions first and goal at the 6. Handley lost 2 on the ensuing play but scored from the 8 on the next to end the game.

Handley led all rushers with 98 yards on 22 carries despite the Delta Devils outgaining the Golden Lions 330-314 in total offense.

Duncan was 15 of 32 for 139 yards for UAPB with 3 interceptions.

Slade had 182 yards passing on 17 of 28 attempts but had 2 interceptions for the Delta Devils.
