CONWAY — The Faulkner County clerk charged with tampering a public record has entered an innocent plea in court.

Margaret Darter didn't speak during the hearing Monday before Faulkner County Circuit Judge Charles Clawson, during which her attorney, Frank Shaw, entered the plea on her behalf.

Darter, a Republican serving her first term in office, surrendered last month after an Arkansas State Police investigation into her office's handling of public officials' financial records.

Darter, who was released on her own recognizance shortly after her arrest, is next due in court Jan. 25.
