A Benton County man was arrested Sunday after pointing a rifle at a Benton County deputy responding to reports that he had dragged a doberman behind a truck, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Raymond William Maresh, 63, was arrested on suspicion of three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of aggravated cruelty to a dog and one count of possession of firearms by certain persons. Deputies recovered 46 guns, mostly high-powered rifles and handguns, from Maresh's residence, according to the affidavit.

Deputies responded Sunday to 18875 Sugar Creek Road near Garfield for reports of a man dragging his doberman in the road behind a pickup.

Maresh pointed a scoped .22-caliber rifle at one deputy before eventually laying it on the porch and surrendering, according to the affidavit.

Deputies found the dog refusing to move and bleeding from multiple wounds, the affidavit stated. One deputy reported the dog had exposed bone on its left front paw.

The dog was taken for medical attention, and was reported to not be aggressive.
