Fishing report

Beaver Lake: Black bass, crappie and striped bass are biting.

James Whittle at Hook, Line and Sinker in Rogers said black bass fishing is fair with top-water lures, spinner baits or jig and pigs. The backs of creek arms, points or chunk-rock banks are good places to fish.

Crappie and walleye can be caught by trolling Flicker Shad or Bandit 300 crank baits. Bottom bouncers rigged with nightcrawlers are also effective. Creek arms or flats are good places to troll.

Crappie are also biting minnows or jigs on the south end of the lake, 15 feet deep around brush.

Striped bass, hybrid striped bass and white bass are biting jigging spoons around the islands north of the Arkansas 12 bridge. White jigging spoons work best, Whittle said. Average water temperature is 60 to 64 degrees.

Mike Whitehouse at Hickory Creek Marina said striped bass are biting brood minnows or shad 12 feet deep. Top-water lures are starting to work for stripers. Whitehouse said several stripers weighing 10 to 20 pounds have been caught. Twenty-eight pounds is the heaviest fish of late.

Beaver tailwater: Lisa Mullins at the Beaver Dam Store said trout are biting nightcrawlers. Power Bait tipped with a waxworm is working. Good Power Bait colors are white, red or chartreuse.

The top lures are small spoons and small jigs. Best flies are egg patterns, midges and nymphs.
