2 men shot in Little Rock while riding in car

Police were investigating a shooting that injured two people early Friday in Little Rock.

Officers responded about 1:41 a.m. to the 1800 block of South Battery Street after they heard about 10 gunshots in the area, according to a police incident report. While investigating, police learned that two men, DeArron Mayo, 18, and Sharvione Harris, 29, had arrived at Arkansas Children’s Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Mayo and Harris told police they were driving on South Battery Street toward Wright Avenue when a black man with braided hair standing next to a red vehicle began firing at them, the report states.

Mayo was struck in the leg and was in stable condition, police said.

Harris was struck in the neck. He underwent surgery, and beforehand told officers he’d been mocking a man’s “girly” red sport utility vehicle before the shooting, according to the report.

Officers found a vehicle matching that description in the area of the shooting. They spoke to its owner, Jeremy Hill, 23, and arrested him on a charge of failure to appear.

No charges related to the shooting had been filed against Hill.

An investigation is ongoing.
