Online sale to start early, Wal-Mart says

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. will offer online Christmas shopping deals earlier than usual, the company announced Monday.

Retailers have traditionally offered their best online sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Wal-Mart will begin making discounted merchandise available at 7 p.m. Sunday.

This will allow customers to go to bed earlier, Walmart.com President and Chief Executive Officer Fernando Madeira said in a news release. Instead of waiting until midnight to begin shopping, customers can get a head start.

Wal-Mart will discount 2,000 items as part of the promotion. Included are TVs, tablets and other electronic devices.

"By starting 'Cyber Monday' hours earlier ... we're making it easier for customers to get ahead of the busiest online shopping day of the year and save on the best gifts," Madeira said.
