Hit by 2 cars, child killed; Louisianian dies in crash

A 12-year-old was killed Monday evening while crossing a street in Jonesboro, police said.

A report from Jonesboro police said Michelle Smith, 47, of Bono was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 on Dan Avenue at Royale Drive at 5:20 p.m. when the child ran from the north into the road in a southbound direction.

Smith's vehicle hit the child, causing him to be thrown into the outside lane where a 2005 Toyota Corolla hit and ran over the child, police said. The Corolla was driven by Kevin Elkins, 27, of Jonesboro.

The 12-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released.

A Louisiana man was killed Monday when his car left the road and hit some pine trees in El Dorado in Union County, according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.

Julius Guillory, 41, of Lake Charles, La., was driving a 2001 GMC north on U.S. 63 north of Rhodes Chapel Road when he lost control of the vehicle and traveled through trees.

At the time of both crashes, the weather was clear and roads were dry.
