MARIANNA — The Arkansas Department of Correction says a state prison inmate at the East Arkansas Regional Unit in Marianna died after being found hanging by a bedsheet in his cell.
Department spokesman Cathy Frye said 27-year-old Charles T. Burson was found shortly after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after a prison guard in a control both saw unusual activity in the cell and called for staff to investigate.
Staff members found Burson hanging from the bedsheet that was attached to a vent. He was pronounced dead shortly before 9 a.m., and Arkansas State Police will investigate.
Burson was serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted in 2012 in Clark County of kidnapping and aggravated residential burglary.
