Howard's fast start too much for UCA

LAS VEGAS -- James Daniel III scored 22 points and Damon Collins and Marcel Boyd both had at least 10 points and 10 rebounds as Howard dominated Central Arkansas from the opening tip Wednesday in a 73-54 victory at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The Bison (3-2) led 40-24 at halftime and never let up in the second half, holding the Bears (1-4) to 35.5 percent shooting from the field.

UCA was coming off its first victory of the season over Texas-San Antonio on Monday, a game in which it shot 57.1 percent overall and 53.8 percent from three-point range. But the Bison limited the Bears to 4-of-19 shooting from beyond the three-point line Wednesday, with sophomore guard Jordan Howard hitting all four (4 of 10).

Howard led the Bears with 16 points, while senior forward Justin Foreman added 12.

Collins finished with 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting with a career-high 13 rebounds, and Boyd made all 5 of his shots for 10 points and had 10 rebounds.

UCA, which trailed 17-4 to open the game, made only one of its first nine shots and never found an answer for Daniel, who came into the game leading the nation in scoring at 29 points per game.
