The Daily Citizen of Searcy reported Tuesday that 57-year-old James Marion Valentine has been charged with capital murder and first-degree battery in the shooting.

Michael Hammond, 40, was killed, and Valentine's wife was shot in the arm.

According to a police affidavit, deputies from the White County sheriff's office responded to a call about a shooting about 2:45 a.m. Oct. 8. Authorities said Hammond was shot in the stomach, and he was transported to Unity Health-White County Medical Center, where he later died.

Sgt. Heather Zomant said all three people involved in the altercation lived at the same location.

Valentine was held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday. It was not immediately clear if Valentine has an attorney.
