More heavy rain brings possible flooding to Arkansas, forecasters say

Nearly half of Arkansas was placed under a flash flood watch early Thanksgiving and some parts of the state could see up to seven inches of rain by the end of the holiday weekend, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service in Little Rock issued the flash flood watch for northwestern and parts of central Arkansas, which are predicted to receive from five to seven inches of rain between Thursday night and Sunday.

A cold front moving into the area from the Rockies is expected to stall around the southeastern part of the state, according to the NWS, bringing lingering rain storms to the region.

November rains, which helped the the state fully recover from a late summer drought, have saturated the ground, increasing risks of flooding, the NWS in Little Rock said.

The NWS also issued a flood warning for parts of Independence, Jackson and Lawrence counties in the vicinity of the Black River at Black Rock.
