7 PURCHASE

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is supposed to be the biggest shopping day of the year, with folks lining up for miles (figuratively speaking) outside big-box stores and customers trampling one another (literally and figuratively) in pursuit of big bargains. Maybe online shopping, that some stores open at 6 p.m. today and that practically every brick-and-mortar and online merchant has been advertising Black Friday sales since, well, almost last Black Friday, will ease some of the pressure. But if you're going out to risk becoming the belle of the brawl -- well, in the immortal words of Hill Street Blues' Sgt. Phil Esterhaus, "Let's be careful out there."

8 POP-UP

Speaking of shopping ops, starting Friday, the Green Corner Store and artist/designer Erin Lorenzen are hosting their second annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 6 at StudioMain, 1423 Main St., Little Rock. You'll find artwork and seasonal gifts, artists' demonstrations, local food and drink samplings, craftmaking and authors reading and signing their works. The event benefits Our House, Community Breakfast and the Dream Center. Visit the Facebook page, facebook.com/events/425833327624869.

9 PETER (ILICH TCHAIKOVSKY)

The Hot Springs Children's Dance Theatre Company won't be cracking nuts per se, but they will be dancing in Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky's Christmas-themed ballet, The Nutcracker, at 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday and Dec. 4-5 and 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at LakePointe Church, 1343 Albert Pike, Hot Springs. Tickets are $35 and $25, $17 and $12 for children under 16 in advance, $30 and $15 at the door. Call (501) 655-6815 or visit hscdtc.org. There will also be a performance of "favorite excerpts" at 6 p.m. Sunday, Anthony Chapel, Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Road, Hot Springs. Tickets are $25. Call (501) 655-6815.
