Officer Richard Hilgeman, Little Rock police spokesman, said officers were called to 3802 Zion St. at 5:46 a.m. on an "unknown trouble" call. Police found an unresponsive man in the driver's seat of a gold Toyota Avalon who had an apparent gunshot wound.

The man was identified by police as Renaldo Wade of Little Rock. His body was taken to the state Crime Lab.

In a news release, Hilgeman said the person who called 911 had returned home at 5:30 a.m. and found Wade in the car. Hilgeman said the driver-side glass was broken out.

Police had no suspects or an indication when the shooting actually took place, though it is believed to have happened overnight, Hilgeman said. No arrests had been made Wednesday afternoon.

No other victims or injuries were known, Hilgeman said at the scene.

Wednesday's homicide was the 26th of the year in Little Rock.

The 25th homicide occurred earlier this week. On Tuesday police were called to 2511 Bishop St., off Roosevelt Road, after a man called police and said he had killed his girlfriend.

That man, Derrick Jermaine Mason, 37, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder. An arrest report said Mason told detectives he choked his girlfriend, Jessica Ryan Berliew, during an argument.

Mason pleaded innocent in Little Rock District Court on Wednesday and had bail set at $75,000. He is also being held on unrelated charges of failure to pay and contempt of court.

Court records show that Mason had been on probation after several misdemeanor convictions, including carrying a weapon and public intoxication, going back to 1998.

Prior to this week, Little Rock had not had a homicide since Sept. 22.
