The historic Capital Hotel in downtown Little Rock kicked off its holiday season Friday with the arrival of its annual Christmas Tree.

The 31-foot White Fir from Oregon was placed in the hotel lobby, where hotel staff will upright it and then begin adorning it with decorations ahead of an official lighting ceremony set for Monday.

The tree, harvested from a mountain in Oregon, is believed to be the largest real Christmas tree in the state, officials said Friday.

In addition to the lighting ceremony, which begins at 6:30 p.m., Santa Claus will receive children's wish lists at the hotel on Markham Street during Sundays in December from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Both the lighting ceremony and visits with Santa are free and open to the public.
