The National Weather Service has issued several flood warnings throughout Arkansas as the state prepares to get drenched by a slow-moving storm system over the holiday weekend.

Forecasters say much of central and western Arkansas could see 5 to 7 inches of rain through Sunday, while the Ouachita Mountain region could get more than 8 inches.

The weather service says river flooding is likely in the Arkansas, White and Petit Jean river basins. A flash flood watch remains in effect for most of the state until late Saturday night.

Forecasters are warning holiday travelers to be aware of road conditions this weekend and to not drive in flooded areas.
