One more thing ...

How could we have forgotten such an important one?

Yesterday's annual Thanksgiving editorial gave thanks for people and places, good food, football, family and especially you, Gentle Reader. But walking around the backyard recently made us slap our foreheads. How could we have forgotten?

Consider this an update: Let us be thankful for fall gardens.

The broccoli and cauliflower plants are as big as recliners, and the fruit is almost big enough to bring inside. No doubt this weekend we'll have our share of casserole with extra cheese on top--and raw pieces dipped in ranch dressing in front of the TV as the college football season winds down. The kids will even eat broccoli and cauliflower in a chicken Alfredo. And it won't be long till some broccoli soup will be in demand.

Ah, November. Like so many other wonderful things in life, it took you forever to get here. And you leave much too soon.
