Kangaroo found hopping on road is returned to owners

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — The owners of a kangaroo found hopping down a northeast Ohio street say they can't figure out how it got away from its home at a retreat for rescued animals.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports the 3-year-old male kangaroo, named Foster, was quietly standing with police when his owner arrived to retrieve him early Friday.

Someone had spotted the kangaroo in North Ridgeville and called police. An officer knew the animal had come from Joe and Candice Hanna's 10-acre property nearby, and they were called to pick him up.

Candice Hanna said Foster stays in a heated barn at the property. She said they haven't determined how he escaped, but they're certain he couldn't make it over their 8-foot-high fence.
