Not all fans at LSU want Miles to leave

LSU Coach Les Miles is the center of intense speculation regarding his future with the Tigers, but not everybody is against the beleaguered coach of the Tigers. Supporters rallied at his side during an airing of his radio show earlier this week.
LSU Coach Les Miles is the center of intense speculation regarding his future with the Tigers, but not everybody is against the beleaguered coach of the Tigers. Supporters rallied at his side during an airing of his radio show earlier this week.

Les Miles hasn't talked with LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva about his future as the Tigers coach with reports swirling about his tenure in Baton Rouge.

"I have no idea," Miles, 62, told reporters after Wednesday's practice. "I would love to think that there's another 11 years, I enjoyed them so much."

It's an emotional issue as evidenced later Wednesday night during his radio show at a local restaurant.

According to The Advocate newspaper in Baton Rouge, one youngster sought comfort in Miles' arms during the show, while a 60-year-old man choked up in front of the longtime LSU coach.

"Some live questioners were brought to tears at the event at TJ Ribs on Acadian Thruway," The Advocate reported. "Sadie, a weekly caller, traveled from Texas with her family to the show.

"During the live question segment, Sadie began crying while asking Miles a question about the offense. He reached his arms out for her, pulling her onto the stage, where he spoke to her face-to-face as if she were a confused running back."

Others just wanted to thank coach for how he was handling his awkward situation.

"I don't know how you keep smiling, but you do," one questioner said. "That's why we love you. ... We're not going to let you leave town."

That's Mister Dukie

Technical fouls occur with enough frequency in the NBA that it's easy to imagine that players don't much mind getting them when they don't affect the result or end up with an ejection. Even the $2,500 fine that comes with a technical is fairly minor.

Yet those factors didn't stop Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler from getting upset with Portland Trail Blazers big man Mason Plumlee for the technical foul he received in Tuesday night's 93-88 Bulls road victory. With a little over 4:20 remaining in regulation, Plumlee ran straight through a Butler screen. Butler's legs caught Plumlee's in the aftermath in a seemingly purposeful leg lock. The two got into each other's faces immediately afterward.

Plumlee received a flagrant-1 foul and Butler got a technical. Butler was not happy with the incident. In fact, he wants Plumlee to pay his fine.

"You know, he thought it was football for a second there,'' Butler said. "It's all good, though. I almost had to let the Fort Greene Projects out of me, in Brooklyn, you know what I'm saying?''

Reminded that he's from Texas and not Brooklyn, Butler laughed and said, "[Teammate] Taj [Gibson] is though, so I can say I'm from there.

"Basketball, emotions, that's part of the game,'' Butler said. "Yeah, he cost me $2,500. I'm going to ask him to pay me back, and I'm not playing. I'm going to ask, nicely. Yeah, I'm going to get that. ... I'm going to tell my agent to e-mail or something,''

Butler took one last shot at Plumlee, who attended college at Duke.

"I know it's like MisterDukie@yahoo.com or something.''

No khakis allowed

Archrivals Ohio State and Michigan will play today, and both sides are preparing appropriately.

Earlier in the week, Wolverines Coach Jim Harbaugh smashed a buckeye in front of former Michigan coach Bo Schembechler's grave. In response, Ohio Gov. John Kasich urged citizens on Friday to avoid wearing pleated khakis -- Harbaugh's pants of choice -- "on this day and all days."
