Wrong-way driver 1 of 2 road deaths

Two people were killed in crashes on Arkansas roads Thursday and Friday, the Arkansas State Police reported.

A 45-year-old man driving the wrong direction on Interstate 440 in Little Rock on Thanksgiving evening was killed when his car hit another car head-on, according to a report from state police.

John Collins of Little Rock was driving a 2011 Subaru west in the eastbound left lane and shoulder of I-440 at 6:50 p.m., the report said. The Subaru hit an eastbound 2013 Nissan head-on.

Collins was killed. The driver of the Nissan, Jonathan Busby, 31, of Wynne, and a passenger, Amber Busby, 30, of Wynne, were injured in the crash and taken to CHI St. Vincent hospital in Little Rock. The condition of the Busbys was not listed in the report.

At the time of the crash, roads were dry.

A Ratcliff woman was killed Friday when her 2001 Ford Taurus ran off the side of the road and went into a ditch in Franklin County, according to a state police report.

Lauren Jo Smiley, 30, was traveling south on Arkansas 23 about a mile south of Arkansas 288 at 12:43 a.m. when the car left the road and went into a ditch, hit a tree and came to a stop on its left side, the report said. Smiley died at the scene.

At the time of the crash, it was raining and roads were wet.
