BOXING

Silver Gloves set for Friday

The Arkansas Silver Gloves will be held Friday and Saturday at the North Little Rock Community Center, 2700 Willow, North Little Rock. Boxers representing 25 Arkansas boxing clubs will compete, and champions from Saturday’s bouts will advance to the Silver Gloves Regional Tournament Jan. 14-16 in North Little Rock against champions from Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma. Bouts will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age. For more information, call (501) 791-8541.

Arkansas falls to Texas A&M

Arkansas lost 25-27, 25-16, 23-25, 25-23 to Texas A&M Saturday at Barnhill in Fayetteville. Pilar Victoria led the Razorbacks (17-13, 7-11 SEC) with 19 kills and 15 digs. Barbara Dapic and Channell Clark-Bibbs had 13 and 12 kills. Danielle Harbin had six blocks.

BASKETBALL

Lyon women defeat Campbellsville

Lyon College defeated Campbellsville, the No. 1-ranked team in NAIA 58-52 at James C. Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville Saturday.

Lyon shot 61.9 percent (13 of 21) over the third and fourth quarters while forcing 14 turnovers.

UAFS men edge Wilmington

Darrius Parker made a layup with 59 seconds left in overtime to give Arkansas-Fort Smith the lead with 59 seconds left and Tyaire Ponzo-Meek missed on a game-winning three pointer as time expired, allowing UA-Fort Smith to escape with an 82-80 victory Saturday over Wilmington University in Newark, Del.

UA-Fort Smith (5-1) sent the game into overtime when Dusan Stojanovic made two free throws with 30 seconds left in regulation.

UAFS women blow out Midwestern State

Arkansas-Fort Smith outscored Midwestern State 12-0 to start the game and finished with 100-58 victory Saturday at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith.

UA-Fort Smith (5-1) won its fifth consecutive game. Sydney Franks led the Lady Lions with 19 points.
