LITTLE ROCK — Supporters of a proposal to expand county officials' terms from two to four years have won approval to try and get their measure on the ballot next year.
Attorney General Leslie Rutledge on Monday certified the proposed constitutional amendment to expand the terms for county elected official sworn in beginning in 2017. The proposal would apply to county judges, justices of the peace, sheriffs, collectors, treasurers, circuit clerks, county clerks, coroners, surveyors and constables.
Rutledge's certification clears the way for supporters to begin gathering the more than 84,000 signatures from registered voters needed to put the proposal on the November 2016 ballot.
